SHROPSHIRE'S Harper Adams University remains one of the UK’s leading universities for student satisfaction, according to new figures published today.

The latest National Student Survey (NSS) shows that 90 per cent of students being taught at Harper Adams near Newport were satisfied with the quality of their course, ahead of a benchmark set for the university by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) of 84 per cent.

When ‘taught satisfaction’ levels are compared across the universities that took part in the survey, Harper Adams’s 90 per cent is the (joint) seventh highest score in the country - with the university being among the top 20 highest ranked institutions.

Dr David Llewellyn, Vice-Chancellor of Harper Adams, said: “We are delighted, once again, to have received such a strong endorsement from our students about the quality of the education they receive at Harper Adams.

“We work hard to provide the best possible environment for studying, as well as an outstanding social experience, for our students and this result reflects the contributions of all staff and our Students’ Union in creating a vibrant and supportive academic community.”

The result for Harper Adams is ahead of the national average of 85 per cent, which was today welcomed by HEFCE.

Sir Alan Langlands, HEFCE Chief Executive, said: “These strong results continue to demonstrate the high-quality student experience provided by universities and colleges in the UK.

“The NSS provides crucial information which not only informs student choices but also improvements in learning and teaching across the sector.”

Around 304,000 final-year students responded to the survey this year, from 154 HEIs and 165 FECs from across the UK. This represents a response rate of 68.6 per cent, the highest rate in the nine years that the NSS has been running.

Questions covered a number of areas including teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and overall satisfaction.
