Hartsfield-Jackson, Google Maps make travel easier
Passengers can quickly, conveniently access information on the go
ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport today became one of the first airports in the world to give Android phone users access to indoor maps in Google Maps.
“We are excited to partner with Google as they launch their indoor map navigation application, which will benefit Hartsfield-Jackson customers,” said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. “To us, good wayfinding means the customer never has to ask for directions and easily can find a restaurant, a gate or the nearest restroom.”
As a part of Google Maps 6.0 for Android, indoor maps are available whenever a user has a connection for his or her mobile device. Customers can see the Airport’s floor plan and layout, which means less time being lost and more time enjoying the more than 250 retail outlets, restaurants, duty-free stores and kiosks.
“Travelers can now use Google Maps for Android to more quickly and effortlessly figure out where they are and what’s around them when they’re indoors,” said Steve Lee, director of product management at Google. “We’re thrilled to work with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to improve people’s Airport experience and help them determine various places within the venue they might want to go — be it a specific gate, ticket counter, restaurant, or just a restroom or ATM.”
Users of Android devices will need to update the Google Maps application in order to access these indoor maps, but no updates will be required after that one-time installation to get new or updated indoor maps. Users can update Google Maps for Android through the Android Market on their phones or desktops.
