WAYFARER200 JUST THE TICKET FOR ARRIVA
Sales of Parkeon’s advanced Wayfarer200 ticketing system with the Arriva Group now exceed 1,000 units, thanks to a new contract to support the ITSO scheme planned by Kent County Council. Arriva Southern Counties has ordered 370 Wayfarer200 ETMs, with built-in GPRS technology, for buses operating out of six depots across Kent, in step with the launch of the county-wide ITSO English National Concessionary Travel Scheme programme and the roll-out of real-time passenger information. This is an industry first, as the ETM will be communicating directly with Kent’s real-time information back office using the latest RTIG standard for Digital Air Interfacing. “This contract demonstrates the critical mass that our latest ticketing technology is gaining throughout Britain,” says Parkeon Head of UK Sales Gavin Trimnell. “From Scotland, to the Midlands and now in the South East of England, the Wayfarer200 is proving itself in a market that demands technological excellence, an ability to handle multiple ticketing types and standards, and the flexibility to adapt to future requirements. Arriva’s Regional Commercial Director, Kevin Hawkins, said “Our investment in this new generation of ticket machine is the latest stage in an ongoing progression of updating our ticketing systems to benefit from technological advances. “Previous generations of Wayfarer machines have served us well and we are pleased to be upgrading to the Wayfarer 200 system.” Arriva is a long standing customer of Parkeon in Kent and the Wayfarer200 represents the fourth generation Wayfarer technology adopted by the company since the early 1980s. The contract brings the number of Wayfarer200s purchased by the Arriva Group to around 1,000 for its UK operations. Deployment in Kent started in August of this year. www.parkeon.com Ends Media enquiries to: Philip Colley, Harvest Tel: 023 9244 9655 / 07785 306378/ philip.colley@harvestpr.co.uk
