Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire – Friday 6 November, 2009; A beautiful new grotto and stunning Christmas decoration scheme will be installed in the Coopers Square shopping centre this festive season, in perfect time to welcome Santa Claus to Burton upon Trent for the town’s Christmas lights switch-on event on Sunday 22 November.

Visitors young and old are sure to be enchanted by the new decoration scheme throughout Coopers Square which will provide a magical Christmas shopping environment. Santa Claus has already sent word that he is looking forward to setting up residence in his new castle house grotto complete with a majestic five metre-high Christmas tree perched on top. The animated display will also feature elves and reindeers catching falling stars from the gigantic tree and going about their festive work. Giant purple LED 3D snowball centre-piece lights, measuring three metres in diameter, will adorn each of the main walkways interspersed with one metre wide white LED snowball features. Sparkling light bars, three metre wide light chain curtains and scrolling light grids will also decorate the shopping malls, giving shoppers the impression of walking in a winter wonderland. For the first time, the shopping centre will also boast a captivating external lighting scheme with icicle lights flowing from the canopies outside HMV, BHS and Poundworld, which are sure to guide Santa to land his sleigh on the recently completed rooftop car park. Dave Chadfield, Coopers Square Centre Manager, commented: “The shopping centre’s new Christmas decoration scheme will look fantastic and is sure to get everyone in the mood for the festive season. The entire centre will be transformed overnight and ready for Santa’s arrival at his stunning new grotto where he will remain in residence until Christmas Eve.” Over 70 stores, including several new shops which have joined the popular Burton shopping centre in recent months, offer shoppers even more choice this Christmas at Coopers Square. And with the recently refurbished rooftop car park in operation, situated off New Street, it couldn’t be easier to get your Christmas shopping mission complete in one easy visit. To help further lighten the load of seasonal stress, Coopers Square’s late night shopping events will start from 26 November when shoppers can also take advantage of free parking in both the central and rooftop car parks from 5pm. The magical Coopers Square grotto is open from 12pm until 5pm Monday to Friday, from 10am until 5pm on Saturdays, and from 11am until 4pm on Sunday. To celebrate late night shopping from 26 November, the grotto will be open from 12pm until 8pm on Thursdays and from 12pm until 3pm on Christmas Eve. Please note there may be queuing at busy times. Coopers Square shoppers can once again book online to see Santa by visiting www.bookfatherchristmas.co.uk or www.coopers-square.co.uk to choose your day and time. But don’t worry if you don’t want to book online, you can still see Santa the old fashioned way and just visit Coopers Square at your leisure. -Ends- Notes to Editors In 1999, the Coopers Square shopping centre was acquired by Grosvenor – the leading international property development, investment and management group – for its Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund.
