Media Release: Albatec Racing Set For Lydden Hill RallycrossRX Debut
Dumfries, Scotland (GB) – Thursday, 28 March, 2013: Albatec Racing is gearing up to make its FIA European Rallycross Championship debut over Easter weekend, 31 March – 1 April, as the opening series rounds are staged at the home of British rallycross, Lydden Hill circuit in Kent. Armed with the new 600bhp, two-litre 16-valve Albatec Peugeot 208, Andy Scott from Dumfries will lead the fledgling team into battle in the first of nine rounds of the re-branded RallycrossRX.
The new IMG-run series pitches the Scot head-to-head with the cream of European rallycross racers at his home event, including former World Rally Champion Petter Solberg, Global Rallycross Champion Tanner Foust and reigning European Rallycross Champion Timur Timerzyanov. With an impressive track record already earned at the Kent circuit in recent years, including triple-heat wins in the opening 2012 ERC rounds, Scott is sure to prove more than a match on home soil.
Run from the team’s base in Bergonne, the Albatec Peugeot 208 continues its test and development programme in France this week, before heading to Kent in time for scrutineering on Saturday. In the hands of Scott, one of Europe’s top Supercar racers, Albatec Racing is expected to be at the forefront of the battle for the series spoils amid a fiercely competitive field of the world’s top rallycross teams.
Joining the team at Lydden Hill will be new-signing Michaël De Keersmaecker, who will make his race debut in the second round in Portugal in April, leaving Albatec Racing with an enviable driver line-up for its maiden season.
The RallycrossRX action starts with official practice from 12.30 on Sunday, 31 March, followed by the first of the heats later that day. The remaining heats kick off Monday’s track action at 09.00 with the main races taking place that afternoon. (All timings are provisional and subject to change.)
Tickets for the opening round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship are available via the Lydden Hill Ticket Office at 0871 230 5589 or visit http://www.lyddenhill.co.uk.
Andy Scott, Albatec Racing Driver car #26:
“I’m extremely proud of the whole Albatec Racing team and very excited about our first event at Lydden Hill. I’ve had considerable success there in the past, including triple heat wins last season, and it certainly ranks among one of my favourite tracks.
“The level of competition this year will undoubtedly be high and the quality of drivers we’re up against is equally strong, so I’m under no illusions that we’ll have a battle on our hands. However, we have a fantastic group of professionals in the team and the Albatec Peugeot 208 should be among the best cars out there, so we will do our utmost to start our season in the best possible way. Testing has gone well and we look forward to unveiling our new team livery at Lydden, while I am also delighted to welcome our latest addition to the team, Michaël De Keersmaecker, who joins us in Kent next weekend ahead of his Portugal debut.”
Marc Laboulle, Albatec Racing Team Manager:
“I am very much looking forward to finally making our debut at Lydden Hill, after months of preparation bringing the Albatec Racing team together. We have achieved an amazing amount so far, and while it’s the results that will really show that we have achieved our objective, I am confident that in Andy’s hands, the Albatec Peugeot 208 will prove more than a match for the opposition.”
