Friday 5 June 2009; David Brabham, two-time Le Mans GT1 winner, is aiming for his third consecutive class victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours, 12-14 June 2009. Brabham makes his return to LMP1 at the 8.4 mile Circuit de la Sarthe for first time since 2003, presenting the opportunity to capture his first win in the category at the wheel of the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.

After contesting and winning the prestigious event in the GT1 class with Aston Martin Racing for the past two years, Brabham returns to LMP1 as part of Peugeot’s three-team assault on the race honours after finishing second for the past two years. The 43 year-old can already lay claim to being the most successful driver in the history of the American Le Mans Series, boasting pole positions and race wins in all four classes, where he currently leads the LMP1 championship with Patrón Highcroft Racing. Should Brabham and Peugeot succeed in their endeavours; the British-born Australian will be one of few drivers to claim victory in multiple classes at arguably the world’s most famous motor race. “The Le Mans 24 Hours is one of the highlights of my season and racing this fantastic event with the Peugeot team will be a great experience,” said Brabham, a seasoned race veteran dating back to 1992. “We head to Le Mans with a lot more confidence, armed with banks of information gained from the Spa 1000 kilometres and the additional test at Paul Ricard where it was great to get more mileage in the Peugeot in the 30-hour endurance simulation. “I’ve been focussed on gathering as much information as possible for Le Mans, in the way that the car works, the traction control, and the tyres, gleaning every bit of data to ensure that I am well on top of things when I get to Le Mans. Now my aim is to go and get the job done. “I’ve won the GT1 class with Aston Martin Racing for the last two years, so it would be wonderful to make it three in a row and I head to France with every intention of achieving that dream.” The Brabham family is enthroned in the history of Le Mans. Older brother Geoff took outright victory in 1993 in the Peugeot 905 EV1 and Gary raced with Porsche in 1989, to mention a few accolades. Sir Jack first tackled the event in 1957, two years before he took his first of three Formula One World Championship titles in 1959. This year sees the 50th anniversary celebrations of that first F1 crown. Qualifying for the Le Mans 24 Hours will take place on Thursday 11 June from 7pm to 9pm and 10pm to 12pm local time. The flag will fall to start the 2009 race battle at 3pm on Saturday 13 June.
