London, UK – Saturday, May 22, 2010; David Brabham secured yet another front row start for Highcroft Racing, clocking up the second fastest time around at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for round three, the American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patrón.

Undertaking the team’s qualifying honours for the first time this season, the reigning champion dominated over half of the 20 minute session. First topping the timesheets on lap two, Brabham went on to be the first to smash the fastest time of the weekend so far by over a second. Brabham held pole in the Highcroft Racing HPD ARX-01c up until just seven minutes remaining when his best time of 1:13.009 was surpassed by the Dyson Mazda of Guy Smith. Although all set for another shot at pole after pitting, with the aim of closing the 0.671 second gap, Braham’s second run was called short when the session came to an early close due to debris on the track, following spins by two LMPC class cars. Thanks to another front row grid slot, Highcroft Racing remains in a promising position to build on the LMP championship lead currently shared with the Porsche RS Spyder pairing of Greg Pickett and Klaus Graf. Teammates Simon Pagenaud and Marino Franchitti will join Brabham for Saturday’s six-hour showdown at Laguna Seca, where the Highcroft Racing trio will be aiming to emulate their first season win at Long Beach last month. “Second on the grid is a good result for us today,” said Brabham. “The cold temperatures meant the track was pretty tricky so getting good grip and balance was tough. “I got a little held up on my runs but not enough to stop me getting pole. Guy put in a great flying lap and the session ended shortly afterwards, but I don’t think it would have made much of a difference to the pole time. “I was really happy with the car today. We made great progress in practice and now we have a good balance that will work well for the race. It’s going to be important for us to keep on our toes and everything clean in the race. The last 15 laps could be where it all counts, so we’re looking forward to it.” The American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patrón at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca starts at 2.30pm PT on Saturday, May 22.
