Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire – Wednesday, May 12, 2010; Coopers Square’s first ever rooftop car park event taking place this Sunday, May 16, will welcome a stunning display of local classic cars, courtesy of the Claymills Classic Car Club.

Coopers Square shoppers will be forgiven for thinking they have stepped back in time when visiting the rooftop car park and its inaugural event this Sunday. Elegant classic cars from a bygone era will sit pride of place alongside iconic replica superstar cars from the TV screens of yesteryear while Roary the Racing Car® and Big Chris will also be appearing in the shopping centre. Pride of place on the recently refurbished rooftop car park will be a Triumph Roadster 1946, similar to the version used in the Bergerac TV series, a 2.5 litre 1965 V8 Daimler and a Jaguar E-Type 2+2 coupe. Kit cars such as a 1992 Lotus Seven Sports, a JC Midget and a JZR Austin Seven Special will also be on display, to name just a few. The Claymills Classic Car Club was founded in 2007 by a group of likeminded people who share a love for older cars and anyone who harbours a similar penchant for the classics can’t afford to miss the Coopers Square event. The club’s near-on 40 members boast an enviable collection of cars stretching back from a 1929 Bugatti to the more recent kit car conversions, including marques such as Morris Minor, Triumph Herald, VW, Jaguar, Saab, Porsche and BMW. Anyone interested in joining the club, which meets monthly at the Clay Mills Pumping Station in Stretton, can chat to members at Coopers Square or visit www.claymillsclassiccarclub.co.uk As well as the classic car contingent, Coopers Square will welcome replicas of the Dukes of Hazzard General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger, the Ghostbusters Ecto1 1959 Cadillac Ambulance and the Knight Rider Trans AM original, better known as KITT from the hit 1980s TV series, on May 16. For younger car and TV fans, Roary the Racing Car® and Big Chris will be making the special trip from Silver Hatch to Burton to appear throughout the day in the Main Square. Dave Chadfield, Coopers Square Centre Manager, commented: “To have such an impressive array of classic cars join our superstar TV car showcase is fantastic. My thanks go to the Claymills Classic Car Club members who have so willingly supported this event. “The bespoke showcase promises to offer our visitors a rare chance to get up close to some of the most famous cars of the last sixty years and with classic cars meeting modern machines and Roary the Racing car, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at this free family event.” Although closed to stage the special event on May 16, the fully refurbished Coopers Square rooftop car park offers the perfect town centre parking solution for shoppers. Situated off New Street, boasting 200 spaces and direct access to Coopers Square, parking costs just £5 per day on weekdays, £1 for up to two hours, £2.50 for between two and four hours, and £1.50 on Sundays. -Ends- Notes to Editors In 1999, the Coopers Square shopping centre was acquired by Grosvenor – the leading international property development, investment and management group – for its Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund.
