Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire – Wednesday 18 November, 2009; Coopers Square stores are joining together to help ease some stresses of the season and offer late night shopping until 8pm on Thursdays from 26 November. The first late night shopping event will launch the Coopers Square children’s Christmas light competition while a special lantern parade will take place on 3 December.

With over 70 stores offering an array of high street names and quality independent traders, Coopers Square could be the answer to completing your Christmas shopping mission in one easy trip. From the best in children’s toys and entertainment to the latest high street fashions, gadgets and technology, designer jewellery and perfumes, you can find a gift for all the family. The first late night shopping event marks the start of the 2009 Coopers Square Christmas light competition. Open to children, aged under 10 and over 10, the winning design from each category will be turned into a giant festive light feature and join the 2007 competition winners’ lights, produced by Megan Moreton and Lauren Parker, in the Main Square for Christmas 2010. Each winner will also receive a Nintendo DS console. Entry forms will be available from the grotto and throughout the shopping centre from 26 November and entries must be posted in the competition boxes located in the Main Square by 7 January. The second late night shopping event on 3 December will welcome a very special lantern festival. Organised by Town Centre Management, a series of workshops at local schools throughout November will culminate in a final workshop at Coopers Square that will see the children make finishing touches to their lanterns. Santa will lead the children on a parade through the centre en route to the Coopers Square rooftop car park where the lanterns will be launched to the sound of festive tunes courtesy of the Burton Round Table Group Sleigh. With the magical sight of hundreds of lanterns floating across the Staffordshire sky, the spirit of Christmas will well and truly be in the air. Dave Chadfield, Coopers Square Centre Manager, commented: “We are delighted to be able to offer late night shopping to our loyal customers again this year. These events really help to get the festive season started on a positive note and, after the impressive town Christmas lights switch-on, we’ve got lots of things happening in and around the centre to help everyone get in to the Christmas spirit. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries for the Coopers Square Christmas light competition, which is run bi-annually, and to having two beautiful new giant lights in the Main Square next year. We are also delighted to host the first Christmas lantern parade which is sure to be a fantastic spectacle.” Late night shoppers can take advantage of free parking in select town centre car parks, including the Coopers Square rooftop and central facilities, from 3pm on Thursdays from 26 November. With Santa in residence following the Burton Christmas lights switch-on, the new Coopers Square grotto will be open from 12pm to 8pm on Thursdays, 10am until 5pm Monday to Fridays, 10am until 5pm on Saturdays, and from 11am until 4pm on Sundays. Please note there may be queuing at busy times. -Ends- Notes to Editors In 1999, the Coopers Square shopping centre was acquired by Grosvenor – the leading international property development, investment and management group – for its Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund.
