Monday 27 July, 2009; Coopers Square shopping centre will once again be taking part in National Playday – the annual celebration of children’s right to play, on Wednesday 5 August, by supporting the Washlands event in Burton upon Trent.

The theme behind this year’s National Playday is Make Time! It calls for everyone to make time to play, from parents, carers and teachers, to policy makers and planners. This year’s fantastic free family event at the Washlands, which is located behind Meadowside Sports Centre, promises lots of activities for children of all ages from 12pm until 3pm. The Coopers Square stand, located near the Main Arena, will offer the chance for children of all ages to exercise their creative flare with the ‘Design a Bag for Life’ competition. Open to two age groups of under 10s and over 10s, one winner will be selected from each category and the winning designs will be featured on the next Coopers Square bag for life to be produced later this year. Each winner will also receive £50 in Coopers Square shopping centre vouchers. Entry forms and space to create artwork will be available on the stand while forms can be posted either with the Coopers Square team at the Washlands or via the entry box in the centre. Dave Chadfield, Coopers Square Centre Manager, commented: “National Playday, which we have supported for some years now, seemed like the perfect opportunity to launch our search for the new Coopers Square bag for life design. I hope lots of children enjoy putting their artistic skills to the test at the Washlands event and I am sure the winners will be proud to see their designs on the shoulders of Burton shoppers come Christmas.” For further information on National Playday visit www.playday.org.uk -Ends- Notes to Editors In 1999, the Coopers Square shopping centre was acquired by Grosvenor – the leading international property development, investment and management group – for its Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund.
