Monday 29 June, 2009; Le Mans 24 Hours 2009 race winner David Brabham took time out of his busy schedule to make a pit stop at Coopers Square shopping centre in Burton upon Trent on Saturday 27 June. The Patrón Highcroft LMP1 American Le Mans Series leader introduced a selection of the first ever official merchandise range endorsed by the Brabham family ahead of the collection’s full launch at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, 3-5 July.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Sir Jack Brabham’s first Formula One World Championship title in 1959 and the merchandise range has been created in honour of the occasion. Hundreds of Coopers Square shoppers seized the opportunity to meet David, Jack’s youngest son, and be the first to purchase exclusive limited edition memorabilia signed by David. The full Sir Jack Brabham collection will be available online shortly at www.f1tools.com “I have had a great day at Coopers Square,” said David. “This event was a good opportunity for me to meet my home country fans, which I don’t often get the chance to do as I mainly race in America. Although I have been to the nearby Donington Park circuit on many occasions, I haven’t been to Burton before so I didn’t really know what to expect. “I was certainly given a warm welcome by the local people while some visitors had travelled quite a way to visit Coopers Square this weekend. It was great to speak to fans who were actually at Le Mans two weeks ago watching my 24 Hours race victory with Team Peugeot Total, and I always enjoy it when people share their memories of my Dad’s phenomenal racing career.” While visiting Burton’s leading shopping centre, David not only drew the winners of the Coopers Square Sir Jack Brabham competition, but personally phoned each one to let them know. Mr Loverock, from Derby, was drawn as the lucky first place winner and received a limited edition Sir Jack Brabham canvas print and fleece jacket. Second placed Keith Ashley, from Tatenhill, won £100 in Coopers Square shopping centre vouchers and a Sir Jack Brabham polo shirt. Graham Tunnicliff, from Burton, won the third place prize of £50 in Coopers Square vouchers and a Sir Jack Brabham cap. Dave Chadfield, Coopers Square Centre Manager, commented: “This has been a fantastic event, it’s not every day you can say that you have met one of the best sports car drivers in the world. Coopers Square is proud to have hosted the introduction to the Sir Jack Brabham 50th anniversary range and the Brabham BT11a kindly supplied by Jon Fairley provided a stunning feature piece. I’m delighted that this event, and of course David, was so popular with our shoppers.” With his Coopers Square visit complete, David Brabham heads to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend to continue the Sir Jack Brabham golden anniversary celebrations. David will launch the entire merchandise collection and drive a 1959 Cooper Climax up Goodwood Hill in addition to the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP Le Mans winning car. Then it’s back to his usual racing duties with Patrón Highcroft Racing at Lime Rock Park, Connecticut USA, 17-18 July, to extend his American Le Mans Series LMP1 class lead.
