Friday 19 June 2009, UK; David Brabham, the winner of the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours, will make his first public appearance following his race victory in France with a special visit to Coopers Square shopping centre, Burton upon Trent, UK, on Saturday 27 June. The international sportscar star is coming to town to celebrate his recent success with fans and launch the merchandise collection celebrating his father, Sir Jack’s 50th anniversary of his first Formula One World Championship title.

David Brabham will be appearing in the Main Square throughout Saturday 27 June, to meet fans and sign autographs while introducing the Jack Brabham 50th anniversary collection, items from which will be available to buy on Saturday and Sunday. Pride of place in the Main Square from Friday 26 June will be a stunning classic Formula One car, a Brabham BT11a Coventry Climax. Sir Jack Brabham drove the car to victory at its first race, the Rand Grand Prix in December 1965. The car went on to enjoy an illustrious career before Jon Fairley, from Huddersfield, purchased it earlier this year. David Brabham commented: “I am very much looking forward to this special event at Coopers Square and to sharing the celebrations surrounding my father’s golden anniversary with the people of Burton. This is obviously a very special year for my family. Never before has a merchandise range of any kind been made available by the Brabham family and Coopers Square visitors will be the first in the world to be able to buy items from the exclusive Sir Jack Brabham 50th anniversary collection. “It’s not very often that I get the chance to meet fans face-to-face, so I am especially looking forward to my first visit to Coopers Square following my Le Mans 24 Hours race win with Team Peugeot Total. I know that motorsport is very popular in this part of the country, so I hope a lot of people will take the opportunity to come and see the stunning Brabham BT11a on display. I’d like to thank Jon Fairley for the loan of this very special car and to Coopers Square for hosting this unique event.” On 14 June, Brabham made history by taking outright victory with Team Peugeot Total in the world’s most famous motor race, the Le Mans 24 Hours – a dream come true for the British-born Australian who has won the GT1 class at the prestigious event for the last two years. A former F1 driver, Brabham has built a worldwide reputation as one of the best sportscar racers – as well as being an all-round nice chap. The 43 year-old currently leads the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) LMP1 championship with the Patrón Highcroft Racing team and remains the only driver in ALMS history to boast pole positions and wins in each of the four Series classes. The Brabham family’s racing success dates back more than half a decade. A triple Formula One World Champion (in 1959, 1960 and 1966), Jack Brabham is one of the most accomplished – and colourful – drivers in history. A true legend of the sport, he was the first F1 driver to be awarded a knighthood while his 1966 F1 title confirmed him as the only driver to be crowned champion in a car of his own construction, a title unchallenged to this day. Now aged 83, Jack and the entire Brabham family are united in celebrating the golden anniversary of his first F1 world title success. Coopers Square shoppers will have the very first opportunity to buy Sir Jack Brabham 50th anniversary merchandise, courtesy of Trakrange and www.f1tools.com The range includes a stunning collection of limited edition canvas prints and quality clothing apparel, including jackets, caps, fleeces and t-shirts, in a befitting retro style. There’s even the chance to win some fantastic prizes in the Coopers Square free prize draw with Sir Jack Brabham merchandise up for grabs plus £150 in Coopers Square shopping centre vouchers. Simply pick up an entry form in-Centre and post it in the competition box next to the Brabham BT11a. The winners will be drawn by David Brabham in the Main Square at 2pm on Saturday 7 June. Dave Chadfield, Coopers Square Centre Manager, commented: “As an avid motorsport fan I can’t wait for this event. Not only will we be able to see one of Sir Jack Brabham’s cars but also his youngest son David, who at the weekend was part of the winning Le Mans 24 Hours team, will be here next Saturday. I do hope we have a huge response to the event and competition as there are some great prizes to be won and the winner will be drawn by David at 2pm. So if you are a petrol head, young or old, there will be something for you to enjoy.” Photography – for David Brabham and Sir Jack Brabham images, please click on the links to download pictures at the bottom of this press release. -Ends- Notes to Editor For further information on David Brabham, including his career history and biography, visit www.davidbrabham.com For further information on Sir Jack Brabham and the 50th anniversary celebrations, visit the new website www.jackbrabham.co.uk About Coopers Square - In 1999, the Coopers Square shopping centre was acquired by Grosvenor – the leading international property development, investment and management group – for its Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund.
