Friday 7 August, 2009, UK; Le Mans 24 Hours 2009 race winner and Patrón Highcroft Racing star David Brabham has confirmed his support of the Humanity’s Team movement by signing a global grassroots petition appealing to the United Nations to declare an annual Oneness Day.

The 43 year-old internationally renowned sports car star joins other famous and influential signatories such as South African Nobel Peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, activist artist-musician and John Lennon widow Yoko Ono, spiritual authors Deepak Chopra and Neale Donald Walsch, sportscaster Gary Bailey, Dalai Lama envoy Sonam Tenzin and U.N. adviser Janis Roze. “I am very much drawn to the Humanity’s Team Oneness campaign,” explains Brabham. “It is something that I feel very strongly about and try and live my life through. I see the world as one, not as separate components, and that gives me much more peace of mind and less conflict. That’s something I already promote through my racing. Instead of carrying a national flag I have a picture of the globe on my racing overalls and helmet. It represents that we are all from one planet. We share the same resources, the same air and sun. We are most definitely part of one whole.” As an Australian living in Henley-on-Thames, England, competing in the prestigious American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and across world-class endurance racing events, Brabham has collected more passport stamps than many. His backing of the Humanity’s Team campaign comes as he heads back to the States to defend the LMP1 ALMS championship lead with Patrón Highcroft and Acura at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, as the series enters the final half of the season. He continues: “I have been very fortunate to be able to do something I love and travel the world. You get exposed to a lot of different cultures, a lot of different points of view, different religions and beliefs, so it’s been very good for me to have that exposure. It broadens your awareness of who you are and who you share the planet with.” Non-profit Humanity’s Team is a global grassroots spiritual movement focusing on awakening the world to Oneness. Dubbed a “Civil Rights Movement for the Soul,” Humanity’s Team work at the level of belief to reconnect people to the principle that all of life is part of one essence, which is whole, sacred and divine. Building bridges across faith traditions and people from every culture, background and life understanding, the team is expanding its base of 17,000 teammates in 90 countries to include representatives in every country who speak the local language, enabling Humanity’s Team to truly reach out and communicate fully with humanity’s diversity. “We’re delighted and grateful that David is partnering with us,” says Humanity’s Team Development Director Lynn Launer, a long-time fan of his. “David is one of the most successful drivers in sports car racing. Winning this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and lending his support to Humanity’s Team, he clearly demonstrates courageous leadership on the track and in life.” Humanity’s Team plans next May to deliver the Oneness petition, signed by at least 50,000 people and supported by U.N. member countries, to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, or next year’s General Assembly president, appealing to the world body to declare an annual Oneness Day that would commemorate and strengthen the ideals of oneness and compassion within and among all nations and peoples. “From my own point of view something like this is really important, where people start to think much more of the bigger picture, in terms of who we are and looking beyond our current ideas and beliefs, looking at a grander vision for ourselves and the way forward,” offers Brabham. “I really think that the Oneness campaign is a way to have peace on our planet which is something I am very much in favour of and believe in, so I look forward to helping push the Humanity’s Team message out there.” To join David Brabham and thousands of others around the globe in supporting the Humanity’s Team Oneness campaign, visit www.humanitysteam.org and sign the petition.
