Thursday 9 July, 2009; The Dolphin Shopping Centre held its 40th anniversary celebrations in style on Saturday 4 July, with a variety of special birthday activities for its shoppers to enjoy and to get into the party mood.

Four decades ago on the 1 July the Arndale Centre opened as one of the most modern shopping centres in the south of England and what is believed to be only the second of its kind in the entire country. Forming a significant part and triggering the transformation of Poole town centre, linking the bus station with the High Street and Kingland Crescent, the now-named Dolphin Shopping Centre remains a thriving retail hub at the heart of Poole. Children jumped into the party spirit to mark the occasion by decorating their own miniature birthday cakes while face painting, balloon modelling, stilt walkers and mysterious walking presents were all highlights of the day. There was plenty of free fun for all of the family to enjoy while a special photography exhibition on the Main Mall gave visitors a fascinating insight into the history of the Centre and the land on which it was built. The feature will remain on display on the Main Mall for a further week before moving to the unit located next to Marks & Spencer. Stephanie Connelly, Dolphin Shopping Centre Manager, commented: “It’s been fantastic to mark this special occasion in the Centre’s history and share the 40th anniversary celebrations with our shoppers. I think everyone had a great day and it was wonderful to see lots of children busy decorating their own cakes and getting their faces painted.” Photography - please click on the thumbnails at the bottom of this press release to download Dolphin Shopping Centre 40th anniversary images. -Ends- Notes to Editors In 2003, The Dolphin Shopping Centre was acquired by Grosvenor – the leading international property development, investment and management group – for its Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund.
