Poole, Dorset – Monday, August 16, 2010; Dolphin Shopping Centre visitors enjoyed an action-packed weekend of free family fun as the Escape the Midday Sun events continue throughout the school holidays.

The weekend’s free summer fun kicked off on Friday, August 13, with another performance from Silly Scott, the south’s leading children’s entertainer, who kept all the family amused with his magic tricks, balloon modelling and face painting skills. In the UK, we throw away a third of the food we buy, but thankfully the Love Food Hate Waste cookery showcase was on-hand to help give top tips in the Dolphin Shopping Centre. Demonstrations held throughout the day by TV Chef Richard Fox outside Marks & Spencer inspired shoppers with recipes reusing leftover food while the Love Food Hate Waste team gave away bags for life and food preserving containers alongside useful literature to take home. For the first time on Friday, Costa Coffee circulated the shopping centre with yummy samples. From coffees to milkshakes and smoothies, tasty mini muffins and biscuits, shoppers were delighted to try the free tit-bits in exchange of a small donation to support the Costa Coffee staff’s fundraising efforts for the Costa Foundation. The Costa Coffee team will be out in force around the shopping centre every Friday throughout August, between 2pm and 3pm, in an effort to raise £250 to help build schools in the coffee growing communities of Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Uganda and Columbia. Boots’ popular children’s mascot, Sunshine Sam made an extra special visit to the Dolphin Shopping Centre on Saturday, giving away free Frisbees, sun hats and Soltan SPF50 sunscreen sachets. Alongside Boots Suncare Consultants, Sunshine Sam also helped to deliver top tips on how the whole family can protect their skin while enjoying the sun. Following Sunshine Sam’s appearance, the action-packed weekend of Escape the Midday Sun events continued with the immensely popular Poole Pottery workshops. Guest of honour on Sunday was Poole Pottery’s Master Potter Alan White, who gave demonstrations throughout the day. Alan’s showcase of throwing techniques while creating Poole Pottery masterpieces undoubtedly motivated a few young budding Master Potters, as children painted bisques to be fired at the famous local pottery for later collection. Stephanie Lacey, Dolphin Shopping Centre Manager, said: “It was great to see so much happening in and around the shopping centre this weekend, with Silly Scott and the free Costa Coffee samples bringing smiles to many shoppers’ faces and the first ever visit by Sunshine Sam. “Many people were captivated by Alan White’s impressive skills and it’s lovely to see children of all ages exercising their own creative flare by painting bisques on the Main Mall. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing not just children but all the family enjoying the free activities on offer which continue until the end of the summer holidays.” For the full programme of Dolphin Shopping Centre Escape the Midday Sun events simply visit www.dolphinshoppingcentre.co.uk -Ends- Please click on the thumbnails below to download the images.
