Media Release: Ellis Signs Late FIA GT3 Deal with Apex Motorsport

Friday 1 May 2009; Former Avon Tyres British GT Champion Bradley Ellis, from Croydon, has signed a last minute one-race deal to contest the opening rounds of the FIA GT3 European Championship at Silverstone this weekend, 2&3 May. The 21 year-old will race the Jaguar XKRS with Chris Dymond for Buckingham-based Apex Motorsport.

Ellis is no stranger to the highly-competitive FIA GT3 European Championship. Last season he was one of seven drivers capable of clinching the championship crown approaching the final round at Dubai with the Swiss Matech team. Despite clinching his first ever FIA GT3 European pole and yet another podium finish in Dubai, the final round was cancelled when torrential rain flooded parts of the track, drowning Ellis’ championship chances. Ellis did emerge, however, as the winner of the Ford Manufacturer Cup for 2009.

“I am really pleased to be back on the FIA GT3 European grid, especially on home soil at Silverstone,” said Ellis. “I’m looking forward to working with the Apex Motorsport team this weekend. I haven’t been in a race car since Dubai in December and obviously, as this deal was only agreed late last night, I’ve not had any time in the car. It’ll be an interesting weekend driving an unknown car with a new team and team mate, so I don’t have any great expectations but I’m looking forward to the challenge and will obviously give it my best shot.”

Qualifying for the opening rounds of the FIA GT3 European Championship will be held on Saturday morning with round one scheduled at 14:30. Round two follows on Sunday at 11:30. For further information and results visit www.fiagt3.com
