Oxford, UK – Thursday, January 10, 2012: Fergus Walkinshaw will be making a special trip to Autosport International at the Birmingham NEC on Friday, January 11, to launch his new team, FW Motorsport. The professional new outfit will compete in the 2013 Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup, supporting the British Touring Car Championship package.

The son of the late motorsport icon and team owner, Tom Walkinshaw, already boasts an extensive pedigree through Ginetta formulae having graduated from the Junior ranks to the GT Supercup, amassing five years of valuable race experience.

In 2012, Walkinshaw underlined his championship calibre right from the second round of the season with podium form at Brands Hatch, notching up 20 top 10 finishes in 27 rounds, including seven top six performances.

The 21 year-old couldn’t be more familiar with the Ginetta G55, having single-handedly built his own car in 2011, while the third year Oxford Brookes University Automotive Engineering student is currently undertaking his year-out in industry at Ginetta HQ in Leeds.

Walkinshaw commented: “I’m delighted to finally be able to announce FW Motorsport at Autosport International. Founding, running and driving in my own racing team has always been part of my plan and we’ve been working towards the 2013 season launch for some time.

“I’ve raced through the various Ginetta classes and my aim is to build on that positive relationship by bringing one of the most professional set-ups to the Supercup paddock.

“Putting a quality campaign together for 2013 is our priority; the team infrastructure is already in place and developing. We will have the capacity to run additional drivers across Ginetta classes supporting the BTCC package, discussions are in progress but I’d be happy to hear from interested parties.

“Work is well underway on my G55, the car has been stripped back to the bare chassis and will be rebuilt from the ground-up ready for pre-season testing. It’s going to be a great season, and I look forward to getting the year off to a good start by talking about the team at Autosport International.”

Walkinshaw will be appearing on the Karting Stage at Autosport International, located adjacent to the F1 Racing Grid in Hall 6, on Friday, January 11.
