Media Release: Mortimer Joins Racing4Charity Celebrity Karting Challenge At Autosport International
Princethorpe, Warwickshire – Friday, December 17, 2010; International GT racer, Alex Mortimer will be getting his 2011 racing season off to roaring start at Autosport International by supporting David Brabham’s Racing4Charity Celebrity Karting Challenge on Thursday, January 13.
Once again held in the Live Action Arena of Europe’s largest motorsport show at the NEC, Birmingham, the Celebrity Karting Challenge offers the rare chance for members of the public to race alongside their motorsport heroes to raise money for charity. Mortimer, the Principal of leading UK sportscar outfit Team RPM, based in Banbury, joins the event for the third consecutive year fresh from a stellar inaugural season competing in the International GT Open Championship. Partnered with seasoned GT racer Peter Bamford, Mortimer took Team RPM to finish joint third in the GTS title fight with an impressive track record that included a trio of podium finishes, one pole position and a fastest lap. The former British GT Champion was one of nearly 100 celebrity racing drivers who supported last year’s Celebrity Karting Challenge, where Mortimer joined fellow sportscar stars such as Allan McNish, Emanuele Pirro, Guy Smith, Marino Franchitti and Johnny Mowlem. Organised by Racing4Charity’s Bill Williams and Le Mans sportscar legend, David Brabham, the 2011 Celebrity Karting Challenge will raise awareness and funds for the Starlight charity (www.starlight.org.uk), which grants wishes to seriously and terminally ill children and also entertains sick children in hospitals and hospices across the UK. Mortimer is once again looking forward to the challenge of helping Brabham’s Racing4Charity team to raise more money than ever this January and commented: “I’ve supported the Celebrity Karting Challenge for quite a few years now. It’s a fantastic event and it’s great to see everyone and have some fun on the karting track after the winter break. “But it’s important not to overlook the real reason why myself and other celebrity drivers are happy to give up our time to support the event and I’m looking forward to helping raise funds for the Starlight charity this year. Bill Williams and David Brabham do a fantastic job of staging this event and I’m sure the 2011 race in the Live Action Arena will be one of the best yet.” There are just a handful of places left for this year’s race. Members of the public can still join the action for just £300, which includes two tickets to Autosport International, by contacting Bill Williams at bill@racing4charity.com or call 0044 (0)7712 578263.
