Oulton Park, Cheshire – Monday 10 June 2013; Sam Brabham delivered the best performance of his debut Dunlop MSA Formula Ford season at Oulton Park this weekend, with four trips to the rostrum, including his first outright second place podium, double Scholarship class wins and a further third place class finish at the picturesque Cheshire track.

Despite clocking in barely 30 minutes of running time in Friday testing, Brabham quickly got to grips with the 2.2-mile Island circuit to put in his career best qualifying effort and rank third, fourth and fourth fastest.

An awesome start for the first race of the weekend allowed the Henley-on-Thames driver to immediately challenge Harrison Scott for second, trailing only JTR teammate Dan Cammish. Brabham then led a 15-lap battle, fending off both Scott and Juan Rosso. But with both drivers coming unstuck, Brabham steered his way to become the first in the family’s history to secure an outright British Formula Ford podium.

Despite a poor start for round 11, Brabham soon recovered from time lost pushed wide as the field slowed to a crawling pace at the Hairpin on lap two, to close down Camren Kaminsky and challenge his teammate on the final lap. Finishing fourth, just 0.2 seconds adrift of another visit to the main race podium, Brabham sealed a second Scholarship victory.

The Henley College student rounded out an impressive weekend with another strong performance in round 12. Sandwiched between Andy Richardson and Kaminsky in a race-long battle for fourth, Brabham was determined to find a way past Richardson. A last-lap pass pushed him wide at Lodge, allowing Kaminsky to snatch fifth, but Brabham quickly recovered to take sixth and his seventh class podium in nine races.

“This has been my best Formula Ford race weekend so far,’ said Brabham. “JTR gave me a perfect car and Oulton Park now ranks as my favourite circuit. After not such a great start to the weekend with little testing time on Friday, I was really focused for qualifying and pulled out my best performance. That really set me up for the weekend.

“I couldn’t have asked for more in race one, taking my first outright podium and class win was awesome. With Dan [Cammish] dominating again, I was the best of the rest. To follow that with a second Scholarship win and third place at a track where my granddad, dad and uncle Gary have enjoyed immense success means a lot. I’ve learnt so much this weekend, really more about myself than the racing, and I can really move forward from here.”
