London, UK – Friday, April 27, 2012; Sam Brabham managed to take another top 10 Heat finish in only his third senior Rotax Max race meeting, following his class debut at Whilton Mill, Northamptonshire, on Sunday, April 22.

Building experience with every race, the 17 year-old made positive steps forward with his DHR Alonso kart set-up which gave him confidence to hold his own against a 32-kart grid of vastly more experience racers around the Midlands circuit.

In Heat 1, Sam fared well against the front runners from his third grid spot to finish ninth and deliver his second top 10 Heat finish since moving up to senior Rotax Max at the beginning of the year. The Henley-on-Thames driver followed that with another strong performance in race two to climb from 20th to 16th place, and then finished 18th in Heat 3.

A flying start from 19th on the grid for the Final saw Sam charge through to 10th by the end of lap one. In his strongest performance of the day, he continued to jostle for position in the fiercely competitive mid-field to lie 11th on the final lap. But a bid to better his position at the last turn resulted in Sam suffering a puncture that dropped him back to 20th place.

Sam commented: “Although I’m a little disappointed with the results, I’ve learned a lot during my first Rotax Max club meeting at Whilton Mill. I’m gaining confidence and starting to push into the top 10.

“Heat 1 started well and I could have got my first top five finish, but I lost consistency towards the end of the race and perhaps didn’t make the most of the opportunities that came my way. Although it didn’t show in the result, I got everything together for the Final. I was comfortable in 11th place and optimistic that I could improve my position. The last lap move didn’t pay off but at least I kept fighting until the last turn.

“I’m going to keep focussing on improving my performance, race craft and race preparation so I’m quick from the first race of the day and I think doing some more UK club events will help me to do that.”
