London, UK – Tuesday 3 November, 2009; The original ‘Karting Guru’, Martin Hines has confirmed that ZipKart, arguably the most successful kart manufacturer and race team of the last 40 years, will make a welcome return to the Karting Show at Autosport International, 14-17 January 2010 at the NEC Birmingham.

Unquestionably, Hines helped to put karting on the worldwide map. The triple FIA World Superkart and multiple FIA European and British champion invented the indoor karting concept, allowing the sport to reach out to the public masses in the 1980s. He also created the popular McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future national karting series, which today is known as Formula Kart Stars. Through the ZipKart Young Guns team, Hines has nurtured numerous young talents from karting to the highest echelons of the sport, helping drivers realise their potential by providing them with the best racing equipment and support available. The Daily Telegraph noted that Martin Hines was ‘The man most likely to set a Formula One star on the road to success.’ Hines has almost single-handedly developed the careers of many of today’s top racing stars such as 2008 FIA Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton, David Coulthard, Anthony Davidson, Gary Paffett, Luke Hines and Jason Plato. Over the last four decades, ZipKart (based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire) has become synonymous with success and for creating the next generation of motorsport stars. Autosport International 2010 will also see the karting icon get behind the wheel for charity as Hines has also kindly pledged his support to race in David Brabham’s Celebrity Karting Challenge. Taking place on Friday 15 January, Brabham’s annual Racing4Charity event will be hosted from the Show’s Live Action Arena for the first time, offering the chance for members of the public to race alongside some of the best racers in the world. Hines commented: “Karting has been the foundation of motorsport for many decades and a part of Autosport International since it began. It’s important that the sport’s grassroots is well represented on such a significant international stage and I’m delighted to be able to bring ZipKart back to the Show. “For aspiring future champions, Autosport International is a vital fixture on the racing calendar. It’s the only UK event where young drivers can rub shoulders with the stars of our sport, many of whom would have visited Autosport International during their karting careers. It’s also the perfect place to find out how to get started in karting, which in itself is a hugely rewarding sport.” Companies interested in becoming a part of the Karting Show at Autosport International can contact Kate Woodley at kate.woodley@haymarket.com or call 0208 267 8300 Autosport International will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, 16-17 January 2010.
