ACTIVE SENIORS HELP KICK-OFF DALLAS COWBOYS’ 2010 HOME OPENER
Local SilverSneakers® members tackle Cowboys Stadium to promote fitness
DALLAS – Older adults from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area will hit the gridiron at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on September 14 to help kick off the Dallas Cowboys’ 2010 home schedule (the Cowboys host the Chicago Bears on September 19 after opening the season in Washington on September 12). More than 600 older adults are scheduled to participate in this special event, which will feature a SilverSneakers class demonstration. SilverSneakers is part of the nationally-acclaimed Healthways SilverSneakers® Fitness Program, the nation’s leading exercise program for older adults. Over 7,000 SilverSneakers members exercise in Dallas/Ft. Worth-area participating locations.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide a demonstration of Healthways’ SilverSneakers program at Cowboys Stadium,” says Debbie James, Healthways Vice President, Fitness Programs. “Not only will participants get the unique experience of being inside this world-famous venue, but they will help promote a key mission of our program; that the combination of regular physical activity and social interaction enhances quality of life. We are very proud to be part of this exciting event.”
The event is open to both SilverSneakers members and any active older adults who want to take part. Participants will also be treated to a tour of the new stadium, which opened last year, and will include a look at the Cowboys’ locker room and some of the team’s private suites. The doors open at 9:00 a.m., and the SilverSneakers class will begin at 9:30. A photographer will be on hand to take pictures of attendees on the world-famous Dallas Cowboys Star prominently displayed on the 50-yard line. Additionally, the Cowboys pro shop will be open for participants to purchase souvenirs. Event parking is free and attendees can enter through gate K.
“We are truly excited about the opportunity this event will give the seniors in our community,” says Dallas-based SilverSneakers Account Manager Rondi Bryant. “It not only highlights the many benefits of physical activity and exercise, but it also gives us the opportunity to partner with the legendary Dallas Cowboys organization. Many of the seniors who will participate in this event have been fans of the Cowboys for decades, so to celebrate fitness, fun and friends in this unparalleled stadium will be an incredible experience.”
