The pristine slopes are waiting and the taste buds are tingling . . . with the Gourmet Ski Safari on the 2nd of December, gastronomy is the fresh focus for winter in Alta Badia.

Alta Badia (Bolzano) – Amidst the splendour of this UNESCO world heritage site, nestled in the heart of the Dolomites, winter holidays are now about much more than simply skiing. A celebration of great food and quality wines, A Taste for Skiing features typical South Tyrolean fayre in a winning combination of winter sports and gastronomy.

A brand new feature is Slope Food. A very special version of the famous finger food or street food, this array of tempting treats will be created by a group of culinary experts, including Michelin-starred Italian chefs to up-and-coming young stars, in twelve locations on the slopes of Alta Badia throughout winter.

Each chef will create Slope Food for their chosen location, including the DoloMitici. Norbert Niederkofler, of St Hubertus restaurant, which boasts two Michelin stars, will play host at the Bioch Refuge. Arturo Spicocchi, of the Michelin-starred La Stüa de Michil, will create for I Tablá refuge, and Fabio Cucchelli, of the Michelin-starred La Siriola, will be at the Ciampai Refuge for the first time.

Other guest chefs include Michelin-starred Juri Chiotti and Diego Rossi from “delle Antiche Contrade” (Cuneo), who will create his own dish for the Lée Refuge, Giancarlo Morelli of Pomiroeu, Seregno (MB), at the Jimmy Refuge, and star of the kitchen and British TV, John Burton Race at the Piz Arlara Refuge www.pizarlara.it Matteo Vigotti, from Peck in Milan, will work with the Col Alt Refuge and Lorenzo Cogo, chef at El Coq in Marano Vicentino, will be at the Club Moritzino Refuge. Championing cuisine for the female stars of the kitchen will be Marilena Vedovelli, chef at Il Giardino delle Esperidi in Bardolino, who will create a recipe for the Mesoles Refuge. The Italian chef, Nicola Portinari from La Peca, in the province of Vicenza will be wowing diners at the Las Vegas Refuge.

You will also be able to sample the creations of three rising stars in international cuisine for the first time. Dutch chef Dennis Van Dop, from Hofstede Meerzigt, will present his star dish at the Pralongiá Refuge. And Martin Volkaerts, who works at his family restaurant, L’Amandier, in Genval, Belgium, will be at the Bamby Refuge.

As these tasty creations are designed to accompany aperitifs, the wine pairing is very important and the snacks will be served with the finest wines from South Tyrol, suggested by the chefs themselves together with the best sommeliers from South Tyrol.
