Snow-Camp partners with Freeze Festival

Snow-Camp has been steadily growing since 2003 and has now worked with over 4000 young people across London. It helps young people develop life skills, while introducing them into the world of skiing. Snow-Camp is having a positive impact on the lives of many of the younger generation across the capital and it comes as a natural partnership that they should team up with the Freeze Festival that is kicking off next week.

This year Snow-Camp’s relationship with the Freeze Festival is expanding and Freeze is providing the four Snow-Camp Apprentices the opportunity to do work experience across the festival, giving these young people an insight into the various different roles involved in organising and running an event of this scale. Snow-Camp will also benefit from stand space and help with other forms of promotion from the festival.

Snow-Camp Director Dan Charlish said of the continued relationship with the Freeze Festival that it will be “a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of our work and hopefully get more people who are passionate about snowsports involved”.

This year’s hotly anticipated Freeze Festival, the leading snowsports festival in the UK, is only days away. Beginning next Wednesday 27thNovember and running through until Sunday 1stDecember. The event will come to a climax on Saturday 30thNovember as Madeon and DJ Fresh take to the stage alongside the ‘Hail the Rail’ competition, a brand new feature for this year. With this set to be a big year for the Freeze Festival, Snow-Camp are proud to be the official charity partners for a third year.

With Freeze Festival being such a big celebration of snowsports it seems only appropriate that the great work of Snow-Camp should be involved alongside many industry giants and some of the biggest names in international snowsports, including British snowboarding prodigy Jamie Nicholls. Just being able to witness such great athletes like Jamie in the UK will act as an extremely inspiring experience for the apprentices. The event’s Clapham Common location will ensure it acts as the perfect position for spreading the word about the Charity to the local Londoners who will be visiting over the five days.

When speaking about why they chose Snow-Camp, Freeze Festival’s Marketing Manager Mat Dixon points out that “not only are they providing a service to the under privileged but also helping the UK tap into a whole new realm of budding talent that would previously go undiscovered.”

Whether this will help us improve on just one medal from the 2010 Winter Olympics in years to come remains to be seen, but lets hope it does!

Snow-Camp is an innovative youth charity that uses a unique combination of skiing, snowboarding and life-skills programmes to support inner-city young people.Through the combination of snowsports and life-skills, their programmes enable young people to grow in confidence and self-esteem, develop as individuals and make positive choices for their lives. Snow-Camp programmes also enable young people to reflect on the key issues impacting their day to day lives, and help them develop new skills to support their futures – particularly towards careers in the snowsport industry.

Snow-Camp has grown steadily from 2003 and now works with at least 400 young people each year across 12 London Boroughs. Their vision is to expand Snow-Camp to other cities across the UK and bring the success of our approach to benefit many more inner-city young people.
