Introducing two new chalets in Morzine-Avoriaz in completely unique locations

Andy Sturt, owner of VIP SKI, has known Jean-Marc Ecoeur from Morzine and Pascal Mourin from Avoriaz for the past 25 years. Often over that time, with each he has pondered over a Pastis or two in a local bar, how their unique but dilapidated family barns might be reborn as extraordinary ski chalets. As luck would have it, after decades of family debates, neighbourly parleys, local planning compromises, and a Pastis or two more, both these two extraordinary projects in two unique but completely different locations will be opened by VIP SKI together and in time for the 2013-14 season.

Chalet Ecoeur was Jean-Marc’s father’s carpentry workshop in the centre of Morzine long before they plonked the Super-Morzine lift to Avoriaz next door in 1950. Now it is 57 steps from the updated gondola. Andy started working with Hervé, the local architect, and Jean-Marc some years ago to turn the unique plot into a smart contemporary VIP SKI hideaway. Balanced on the cliff, bang in the centre of Morzine, the chalet has an exquisite and quite unexpected panorama of all the local summits from the spacious wrap around terraces. VIP SKI has added all the ubiquitous toys like an outdoor hot tub, sauna, Wifi, iPod docks and wall mounted flat screens in all the rooms. Smart contemporary living with four nice sized bedrooms (one with extra bunks for the kids).

Chalet Poudreuse was a Mourin family barn for the high altitude Morzine summer grazing stock before they decided to build a ski resort called Avoriaz there and lay the pistes all around it in 1962. Until this summer it looked a little incongruous amongst the space age developments and ski lifts all around it. Pascal worked with Andy to create a high altitude refuge with all the contemporary comforts that have become VIP SKI trademarks. They had to demolish the barn but in its place is a chic stylish alpine retreat with no equal; huge vaulted living space with panoramic balcony, flat screen and log burning stove, five compact bedrooms (one with extra bunk beds for kids) with wall mounted TVs, Wifi, iPod docks and smart contemporary bathrooms. VIP felt compelled to add a sauna with a door to the piste for the full Finish hot/cold treatment. You know that it’s really ski-in ski-out when you have to get carried across the pistes on a snowcat with your suitcases and your ski instructor doesn’t have to take off his skis when he knocks on the door.
