New guide marks 20 years of helping to plan dream holidays

We all know one of the best parts of going on holiday is the excitement we get from planning our dream trip. Thank heavens then for the skier’s bible: Where to Ski and Snowboard 2015, the definitive and hugely comprehensive guide to the winter holiday season, which this year celebrates 20 years of being the go-to guide for all things snowsports. Over those 20 years Where to Ski and Snowboard has seen off all competition and is now the only annual guidebook to wintersports resorts.

With more than 100 featured resorts, and indispensable guides on pricing, local terrain, lift passes and piste lengths, Where to Ski and Snowboard is the ideal number one holiday companion.

Since its inception in 1994, Where to Ski and Snowboard has helped thousands of snowsports lovers, experienced and novice alike, to choose their perfect break. While the publication has remained consistently comprehensive, a lot has changed since the first edition in 1994! The Internet has gone stratospheric, Tony Blair has come and gone, the National Lottery has started, and the number of active snowsports holidays taken each year has increased by over 100,000.

That’s because skiing and snowboarding are the best sports to help beat the winter blues – which, let’s face it, we all suffer from at times. With sunshine levels dropping off dramatically in the UK in the winter, it pays to get a bit of a vitamin D injection and fresh alpine air, while boosting all-important serotonin and endorphin levels.

So, perhaps, instead of a summer break, a winter activity holiday is just the tonic to alleviate those winter blues? Pre-empt the post-Christmas lull in spirits and head for the slopes.

The latest 20th anniversary edition of Where to Ski and Snowboard will let them cosy up on the sofa and start planning to hit the slopes anytime from December to April. The guide is jam-packed with hundreds of mountain maps, street plans and hotel ratings, and every chapter features photographs that perfectly convey each resort’s character. It also features frank and honest verdicts on the best resorts, pistes and local facilities, ensuring that an eagerly anticipated winter break doesn’t turn into a nightmare but remains true to the dream.

Readers will have ample time to look at which resort is right for them – and ample time to build up that pre-holiday sense of excitement and momentum, even on the most miserable of days.

In the latest edition, the editors Chris Gill and Dave Watts, both stalwarts of ski and snowboard consumer guides, reveal some of the winners and sinners of the European resorts that they’ve kept a watchful eye on over the past 20 years – with Kitzbuhel, Tignes-le-Lac, Val Gardena and Verbier noted as being the most improved in their regions. France and Austria are the most popular destinations, as they were in 1994, but France has now overtaken Austria as the Number 1 for British skiers and boarders.

But don’t just take our word for it. The revised edition is due to hit the shelves in September, and is as comprehensive as it is enjoyable.  And, of course, it’s versatile too, so holidaymakers can take their own 24/7, personal guide on holiday with them.
