Leine & Linde’s Newest Encoder Meets Needs of Heavy Equipment Users
Schaumburg, IL - (February 2014) – The new Leine & Linde model PHE 900 encoder is now introduced to meet the needs of the most demanding heavy equipment applications, and is currently experiencing particular interest from those in the mining and oil & gas industries. This absolute encoder has been created as a flexible platform which can be tailored to meet various application requirements. It is the answer to many safety concerns since its use facilitates the equipment operator knowing the exact location of relative moving parts at all times in order to prevent accidents.
The foundation of the 900 encoder series is a solid aluminum housing and bearing design which has incorporated many years of Leine & Linde’s experience in the wood, steel, wind and construction industries. The PHE 900 bearing set enables best-in-class load ratings, particularly notable in environments where shock, vibration and shaft loads are extreme.
Hollow shaft designs up to 16mm are available. In addition, 17mm taper shaft or 20mm hollow-shaft with keyway are also standard offerings. Alternatively, an 11mm or 14mm diameter output shaft with B-10 Euro-Flange mounting is available.
Coupled with the solid mechanical design is Leine & Linde’s state of the art inductive measurement technology with advanced signal processing, providing a robust construction without sacrificing accuracy. Absolute rotary position values with up to 19 bits single-turn and 16 bits turn-counting are available for a 35 bit measurement capability.
In keeping with Leine & Linde’s focus on extreme durability, the multi-turn function on the 900 series is implemented without mechanical gearing. The turn counting function is implemented via solid-state electronics with internal back-up power. There are no gears or moving parts and no external power is needed to retain the absolute position values. Communications with control electronics can be provided via DRIVE-CLiQ, EnDat, SSI, PROFIBUS and Incremental quardature formats in both single and dual encoder implementations. For example, 35bit position with EnDat plus 1Vpp outputs can be provided in parallel with a High Current High Voltage TTL output with virtually any resolution up to 3278ppr.
