ORLANDO, FLA., (June 17, 2010) – The physical therapist assistant program at Herzing University – Orlando has been awarded accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), the university announced today.

Accreditation signifies that the Herzing program meets nationally accepted standards in the physical therapy field and ensures that graduates have the qualifications required to take the licensure examination and begin working in the career.  As a CAPTE candidate for accreditation for the past 18 months, the Herzing program was evaluated through internal and external reviews and onsite visits by qualified reviewers and demonstrated compliance with established criteria and guidelines.

“This marks the successful conclusion to a lengthy accreditation process that was difficult and ultimately very beneficial in helping us to assess and strengthen our teaching and learning,” said Heatherann Antonacci, Campus President, Herzing University – Orlando.  “The demand for qualified physical therapist assistants is expected to grow 29% within the next decade, and accreditation confirms that our program will prepare students to seize yet another career opportunity in the growing health care field.”

Students in the full-time program, which can be completed in 20 months, receive an Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant degree. The coursework involves classroom and clinical study in science and physical therapy, as well as core general education and personal development courses. Applications are now being accepted for spring 2011.  For more information on the program, visit Physical Therapist Assistant Program.

The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education is an accrediting agency that is nationally recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). CAPTE grants specialized accreditation status to qualified entry-level education programs for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. The 26-member Commission includes representatives from the educational community, the physical therapy profession, and the public.
