Herzing University Campuses in Kenosha and Brookfield, Wisconsin, Launch New Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Programs
BROOKFIELD, WIS., AND KENOSHA, WIS. (June 17, 2010) – Herzing University announced today it is launching a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program at its campuses in Brookfield and Kenosha, Wis. Applications are now being accepted for students interested in beginning the program in September 2010.
“Herzing has a strong history of preparing students of all ages for in-demand careers, and we are pleased to bring this higher-level nursing degree program to two more campuses,” said Renee Herzing, President, Herzing University. “There are more than 2.5 million registered nurses in the country today, both men and women, and the field is expected to grow 22 percent by 2018. The BSN is one of several career-focused training programs that help our students across the country seize the growing opportunities in health care.”
The BSN program at the Brookfield and Kenosha campuses is designed for high school graduates and adult learners. They study full time for 33 months in a unique format that concentrates classes in morning, afternoon, or evening blocks to provide a more life-friendly schedule. Through the program, students develop a foundation of knowledge and experience in pediatrics, obstetrics, adult health, mental health, geriatrics, and public health. They also take general education and personal development courses in addition to the required nursing and nursing-support courses that integrate theoretical instruction with clinical experience in a variety of health care settings.
“At a time when demand for nurses continues to grow, we are very excited to offer a degree that helps students take their careers to the next level,” said Krista Wills, Campus President, Herzing University – Kenosha. “A BSN degree provides nurses with more career opportunities in every type of health care facility, as well as the option to continue their study at the graduate level and move into advanced practice and management positions.”
Students who have completed some college courses may shorten their required coursework for the BSN by transferring qualifying credits to fulfill their general educational requirements. Depending on the number of hours of transfer credits, students with previous experience could complete the program in as little as two years, Wills said.

Dr. Karen Kapke, Director of Nursing for the Brookfield and Kenosha campuses, agrees, “The curriculum prepares graduates with all the skills necessary to work in health care today and into the future. It combines a strong scientific foundation with cutting edge courses like Nursing in the Long-term Care Setting and Nursing Informatics, the study of computerized databases and other technology used in today’s health care organizations.”
The Herzing BSN degree programs are approved by the State of Wisconsin Board of Nursing and the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board.
Herzing University Online also offers convenient options for nursing education. The online BSN Bridge degree is an RN to BSN “bridge program” for registered nurses who want to advance their careers by earning their bachelor’s degree. Two Master of Science in Nursing programs also are available, with Nursing Education or Nursing Management concentrations to fit individual career goals in executive-level nursing or teaching positions.
