LOS ANGELES (September 14, 2010) – In his debut video, “Come Back America”, Nathan Shaffer manages to compliment the catchy title track from his new album, with a scathing visual commentary on many of our country’s most polarizing personalities.  While boldly mocking public figures such as Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and Glenn Beck whose visages are juxtaposed with images of a less contentious bygone era, Shaffer makes an impassioned plea for the restoration of America’s common sense and unity of purpose.

“What I’m trying to say is, ‘Come back America, come back to freedom.’  I’m not feeling free anymore, is anyone in this country?” Asks Shaffer.  “Most people in this country aren’t free, and they don’t even know it. They’re slaves to a broken tax system, corporate greed, and laws that infringe upon our most basic liberties.”

“Come Back America” (view it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCJheZ3oyYo) marks the longtime Los Angeles transplant’s return to music after a 25-year hiatus.  In the 1970’s, Shaffer was inked to two consecutive major record deals before retiring from music to raise his son.   A couple of years ago however, Shaffer was at a Paul McCartney concert when suddenly the rock n’ roll light switched back on.  The urge to sing and write surged through him and melodies began to materialize. The first song would be “Come Back America.”

"The United States is now an global empire, not just a republic as envisioned by our founding fathers.  This empire costs us about a trillion dollars a year, that’s with a “T”, just to maintain this American empire” says Shaffer. “There are 192 countries on the planet and we have troops in 135 of them while we can't even take care of the people here at home.   It may not sound like something to sing about, but music is how I communicate best.

"Since the end of World War II, we've lost our way and I would like America to rekindle the ‘We’re all in this together’ spirit, that made us such a great country.  That’s why I wrote this song.  I’m calling for the American people to rise up and start putting America first again.

“This album, ‘Come Back America’ represents who I am,” adds Shaffer.  “I’ve got songs on there that are about me looking back on my life and, growing up.  I’ve got songs about my son. I got a couple of love songs and I got some political songs on there – it’s kind of who I am, just a normal American, y’know.”
