Carl Bildt to join the Board of HiQ Former Prime Minister of Sweden and Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Balkans, Carl Bildt, is joining the Board of IT and management consultant HiQ. The Swedish government's IT Commission was formed in 1992 with the aim of making Sweden a world leader in all areas relating to information technology. Carl Bildt was one of the driving forces behind it, and was also the chairman of the Commission. In 1994, Carl Bildt was the first head of government in Europe to open his government offices to the public via the Internet. - Carl Bildt is one of Sweden's most prominent IT pioneers. He was the man who spoke of "broadband for all" before Bredbandsbolaget had even been thought of, says Ken Gerhardsen, CEO of HiQ International. We are convinced that he will be a great asset to the board of HiQ, particularly as regards his personality and commitment, which we see as excellent additions to our Board. Bildt has always emphasised the importance of a corporate climate that encourages entrepreneurship if Sweden is to maintain and consolidate its position as a leading IT nation. - I look forward to being able to make a small contribution to the emergence of successful Swedish entrepreneurship in the field of IT. This is perhaps Sweden's and Europe's most important future industry. And HiQ has the expertise and the knowledge require to succeed, says Carl Bildt. - Carl has a long history in politics, and can bring a fresh perspective to the Board that is different from that of traditional industrialists. This is a great asset to us. His enormous international experience and wide network of contacts is also a valuable bonus in terms of our expansion plans, comments Gerhardsen.
