HiQ has been commissioned to assist the Swedish Tax Agency in its work on producing a specification and developing prototypes for the Agency’s service-based IT architecture.

As part of its overall IT strategy, the Swedish Tax Agency’s architecture unit is implementing an initiative to make the Agency’s IT systems more service-oriented. This initiative is primarily aimed at enabling more efficient development in the long term of the tools that support its activities, as well as facilitating system maintenance and operation. HiQ has been commissioned to work with the Swedish Tax Agency on the specification and development of the technical architecture which will form the basis of the Agency’s future work on making the various subsystems more service-oriented. The work also includes the development of a prototype architecture. The development of a service-based architecture by the Swedish Tax Agency is a long-term venture with the capacity to simplify and improve the efficiency of the Agency’s work at many levels, from processing tax matters to the development and operation of its IT systems. It is also an important step towards realising the Agency’s vision of a 24-hour authority. At present the Agency uses more than 70 different systems for population registers, real estate registers, etc. The new architecture will enable the organisation’s IT support to deal with the requirements set more efficiently, resulting in lower costs. “HiQ has long experience of developing business-critical solutions and advanced systems for our clients – a strength that provides good opportunities for us to be competitive in a number of different sectors. The Swedish Tax Agency is an important client for HiQ and naturally we are delighted at the confidence that it has shown in us by awarding us this important assignment,” says Patrik Boman, Managing Director of HiQ Data. The Swedish Tax Agency was formed in 2004 though the merger of the former National Tax Board of Sweden and Sweden’s ten regional tax authorities to form a completely new authority. Its main task is to administer large parts of the tax system so that this functions as intended by the Swedish parliament and government. In addition, the Swedish Tax Agency is responsible for population registration, real estate tax assessment and the registration of estate inventories. Like many other authorities, the Agency also participates in society’s efforts to combat crime. The Swedish Tax Agency has around 10,500 employees.
