HiQ has received an order from Tidningstryckarna AB to develop further a control system for handling packing and delivery of newspapers to the end customer.

“We have nearly 15 years’ experience of working with various players in the newspaper industry. Most of the processes involved in printing daily newspapers are now automated, with high requirements of system reliability. If our client Tidningstryckarna is to be able to ensure punctual deliveries, it needs a control system capable of meeting these requirements. At HiQ, we have the skills to achieve this and are able to assist Tidningstryckarna with it,” says Dag Sundman, Managing Director of HiQ Cats. HiQ has already for many years been responsible for the development of Tidningstryckarna’s control systems in its packing halls, i.e. the systems that ensure that the newspapers are handled, packaged and loaded for transport on to retailers and distributors. The new assignment involves HiQ developing further the control system for the part of post-processing that is responsible for the packaged bundles of newspapers being labelled with the correct addressee. In the new system only a few bundles are labelled with unique addresses, which means less risk of delays in packing and delivery. “Since only a few bundles of newspapers will be labelled with unique addresses when the new system is taken into operation, the risk of delivery delays is substantially reduced. Within the newspaper industry delivery requirements are extremely high because news generally has a short shelf life. Fewer disruptions to our production increases the quality that we can give our customers, so HiQ’s consultants have made an important contribution in this assignment,” says Björn Röstlinger, technical manager at the packing halls of Tidningstryckarna AB. Tidningstryckarna AB is owned by the newspapers Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet. The company produces newspapers, magazines and other printed material such as direct advertising. Tidningstryckarna prints the daily newspapers Aftonbladet, Svenska Dagbladet and Metro. The company has turnover of around SEK 470 million annually and around 220 employees. “HiQ has unique skills – through our subsidiary HiQ Cats – in the development of control systems for the newspaper industry. HiQ has worked on developing business-critical systems in various sectors for many years and the assignment for Tidningstryckarna is another example of how HiQ’s expertise can help increase our client’s efficiency and productivity,” says Lars Stugemo, President and CEO of HiQ International.
