HiQ develops system that will simplify distribution of digital music HiQ has won a new order to develop a system that will considerably simplify the distribution of music via Internet and mobile terminals. The system will be the first of its kind in the world and marks the start of the Swedish recording industry's joint initiative aimed at offering retailers the facility to sell digitally downloadable music. "With the music industry behind the product we are able to set the common standard required in order to develop a secure, flexible system. The first version of the system handles ring tones based on original music," says Magnus Gudéhn, Account Manager at HiQ. Grammotex Data AB is owned by the Swedish Phonographic Industry Association (Grammofonleverantörernas Förening - GLF). Behind GLF are most of Sweden's music distributors such as Bonnier Music Group, BMG, EMI, Sony Music, Universal and Warner Music. Grammotex currently has a catalogue service that allows retailers to find and order the company's products and the new system, Grammocert, will provide equivalent services for digital media. "The Grammocert database is incredibly important to the recording industry, since it will become the platform for distributing digital music in different formats and forms. It is vital that Grammocert is a robust product that meets our requirements today, but which is also prepared for future needs.
