HiQ helps Hultafors find the perfect hammer blow
With modern technology, you can even improve and simplify the most analogue activities. HiQ is now helping Hultafors find out how to strike the perfect hammer blow.
“It’s really cool to use technology like this in a world that’s so analogue,” says Maria Ågren, Project Manager at HiQ Gothenburg.
When tool manufacturer Hultafors presented their ‘Hunt for the perfect hammer blow’ at Nordbygg, the largest construction fair in the Nordic region, HiQ came up with the technical solution. Thanks to collaboration with an occupational therapist, custom software and a sensor that measures vibrations 3,200 times per second, the craftsmen could compare different hammers and see which one best suited their style and technique.
“The purpose of the test was to find the gentlest hammering technique for different work situations, and to design hammers that also help prevent injury and improve the health and day-to-day work of the craftsmen,” says Patrik Sahlsten, VP, Sales & BusDev Director of HiQ Gothenburg.
Hultafors is a leading international brand of high-quality hand tools designed for craftsmen and industry. Even though they have made their characteristic red-ended folding rules since 1883, they use modern technology to improve the everyday lives of craftsmen.
“We think it’s exciting to use new technology to develop new products. We already do a lot with the craftsmen to better understand their work and their challenges, and this is another way to make their working life much nicer,” says Linda Andrén, Director Sustainability, and Business Unit Tools & Ladders at Hultafors.
Occupational Therapist Oscar Puleo at Sportrehab in Gothenburg:
“We know that vibration is harmful in the long term. Damage from vibration is one of the most common causes of occupational illness in the industry and construction sectors. This is one of the things we want to improve by finding the best technique and hammer for a long and healthy working life,” he says.
