HiQ has been commissioned by the operator 3 in Scandinavia to help construct an effective IREG test facility to ensure that end users are able to access 3’s services in many different countries. In this assignment HiQ is responsible for project management, test management and test performance.

“The operator 3 is expanding rapidly and it is critical that our roaming arrangements with operators in other markets work well, so that we can also offer the end consumer our services abroad. In addition to basic services such as voice calls and SMS, we are launching videotelephony and fast data network services in more and more countries – which requires extensive testing and adaptation in the network if the services are to work equally well wherever the customer is in the world. HiQ has assisted us very well with building up our testing activities within this area,” says Anneli Jennersjö-Lundberg, Project Manager at 3. IREG is an international roaming standard that simplifies and clarifies how operators in different countries must exchange data traffic. “As a consumer, when you use your mobile phone abroad it automatically means that you are calling through a network other than the operator’s own – a process known as roaming. It is crucial that the roaming process works with operators throughout the world if our subscriptions are to be attractive to end users. As increasingly advanced mobile services are launched, so it becomes all the more important for us to test that the processes work prior to launch,” says Bo Ringdahl, Account Manager at HiQ Stockholm. “HiQ has extensive knowledge and long experience not only of mobile terminals, mobile networks and service platforms, but also of running advanced, high quality testing activities cost-effectively. The knowledge and experience gained from our extensive terminal testing activities have been of great benefit in the work on constructing an optimal IREG test facility with 3. Naturally we are very pleased that our client has placed its confidence in us,” continues Ringdahl. The 3 group is the world’s leading operator of mobile broadband networks and media services with 13.5 million customers in nine countries. In Sweden and Denmark 3 is a joint venture between the Hong Kong-based Hutchison-Whampoa Limited (60%) and Investor AB (40%). 3 Scandinavia also has a licence to operate 3G networks in Norway.
