Advanced Radiation Centers of New York (ARC), the leader in Radiation Oncology technology in the Metropolitan New York region, was approved as a participating member of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), a national clinical cooperative group funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to increase the survival and improve the quality of life of patients diagnosed with cancer.

“To be granted membership to the RTOG is a testament to the dedication we show to our patients day in and day out,” says Dr. Shawn H. Zimberg, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology for Advanced Radiation Centers of New York. “Being a participating member of the RTOG is both a great honor and responsibility. Our patients will gain access to clinical trials not available via any other source, and we will be able to provide them with the very best in clinical research opportunities."

ARC has been recognized as an Affiliate Member of Emory University for the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. In order to be approved for membership, RTOG conducts a thorough examination of each practice including personnel, equipment, clinical material, physics requirements, and records. In addition, the institution must have an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and a Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) approved by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP). All members are reassessed each year in order to ensure these requirements are still met.

RTOG works to improve the survival outcome and quality of life of adults with cancer by conducting of high-quality clinical trials. The cooperative group, which ARC is now a member of, evaluates new forms of radiotherapy delivery in the context of clinical research.
