SCAN TO STREAMLINE SLAUGHTERING BUSINESS IN SWEDEN

Scan AB plans to transfer its slaughtering operations from its Uppsala
production plant to the plants in Linköping and Skara and to associated company
Siljans Chark AB in a bid to streamline the operations and acclimatise to
future requirements.

The move in Uppsala will affect a total of 35 jobs, on which statutory
employer-employee negotiations were started today. In addition to the
slaughterhouse, the Uppsala plant houses consumer-packaged meats production and
a distribution terminal, both of which will carry on as before.

As meat production declines and competition steps up in Sweden, Scan finds it
necessary to cut costs in the slaughtering business. The transfers will enhance
the utilisation rate of existing capacity and optimise deliveries.

Scan AB is a subsidiary of HKScan Corporation and it is responsible for the
Group's business activities in Sweden.
