Hoffmann + Krippner UK Announces Ultra-Flat, Hermetically Sealed Membrane Potentiometer Technology

SENSOFOIL® high-accuracy membrane potentiometers support reliable, long-life linear and rotary position sensing

Hoffmann + Krippner has announced the UK launch of an innovative ‘ultra-flat’ membrane foil potentiometer technology that offers high-accuracy, wear-free operation and longer lifecycles and lower costs than mechanical alternatives.

Ranging from just 0.7mm to 2.2mm in height, SENSOFOIL® membrane potentiometers are ideal for linear and rotary path and position sensing applications with limited installation space. Standard lengths vary from 50mm to 500mm, while the flexible nature of the technology allows the potentiometers to be used in linear and circular formats or tailored to application-specific shapes.

SENSOFOIL STANDARD potentiometers consist of several layers of PET foil separated by spacers and connected to each other to create a contact either by hand or mechanical wiper. These products offer lifecycles of up to one million operations and are compatible with temperatures from -40°C to 55°C.

SENSOFOIL MAGNET versions are similar to the standard technology but feature an integrated ferromagnetic material for non-contact operations, for example through a thin enclosure.

A HYBRID version of SENSOFOIL is also available in which the upper connector foil is additionally protected through an integrated metal layer. SENSOFOIL HYBRID is well suited to applications that need extended temperature operation from -40°C to 105°C (optional 125°C) or that are expected to operate in harsh environmental conditions. HYBRID technology is also perfect for applications that work in a vacuum or where reliable operation is required despite long periods of inactivity.

All SENSOFOIL products are sealed to meet IP 65/NEMA 4X, with enhanced sealing available as an option. Target markets include the machine building industry, industrial control and automation systems, medical and laboratory equipment, consumer products and aerospace electronics.
