Providing Almost 100 Years’ Worth of Volunteering to Society

April 19, 2012, Toronto, ON – Holcim Canada aims to mobilize its 3000 Canadian employees to volunteer one day in their local communities throughout the year. The initiative is part of the company’s ambitious ‘Together for Communities’ volunteer program, officially launched in Canada during National Volunteer Week, to celebrate the centennial of its parent company Holcim Ltd.

The 100 year anniversary of Holcim Ltd. is being celebrated in a very special way across the globe in the various countries where the company is present. ‘Together for Communities’ aims to engage as many as 80,000 employee volunteers to provide almost 100 years’ worth of volunteering service to society.

For years Holcim Canada has been committed to its neighbours and building healthy, vibrant and liveable communities. The Honourable Charles Sousa MPP, Mississauga South, local provincial representative for the riding in which Holcim Canada operates its Mississauga Cement Plant, is familiar with the work the company has done in the community. “I congratulate Holcim Ltd. on their 100th anniversary and their exceptional business and community engagement. It is especially great to see Holcim celebrate this incredible milestone by giving back generously to their local community, organizations and charities through their Together for Communities initiative. Thank you to Holcim and all the wonderful volunteers for your leadership!”

“People are one of our biggest assets. Our employees have been a critical part of helping us contribute to the communities we live and work in and we are proud to work alongside local organizations to make a tangible difference.” said Paul Ostrander, President & CEO, Holcim Canada.

"It is extremely important to have committed partners in the community—the kind that you can count on to pitch in for a local Habitat for Humanity build, join volunteer committees and support local families in need,” says Stewart Hardacre, President and CEO, Habitat for Humanity Canada. “By adding volunteerism to their corporate giving program, Holcim Canada is providing its employees and partners in the Together for Communities initiative a very personal experience – a chance to see first-hand the value of their contributions and the difference it can make."

The commitment of Holcim Canada employees to this volunteer initiative was witnessed at a series of launch events held in Ontario and Quebec where employees participated in various community activities.
