Gain CompTIA accreditation for life by completing before January 2011
New rules introduced for A+ and Network + courses
Home Learning College students currently enrolled on a CompTIA A+ or Network+ course are encouraged to take advantage of a new ruling that awards accreditation for life to anyone who gains their qualification before January 2011. Earlier this year, CompTIA announced a new three-year renewal policy for the A+ and Network+ certifications. This is designed to reflect the requirements associated with other major IT qualifications, such as Cisco, Microsoft and Oracle. The renewal policy is also required for these certifications to maintain their accreditation and compliance with internationally accepted standards for assessing such programs. This means that anyone who completes one of these courses after December 31 2010 will automatically have to update their certification every three years. This can be done by passing the most current exam for a respective certification or by participating in CompTIA’s upcoming new continuing education program. The latter will allow individuals to keep their skills current and their certification up to date without retesting. Students who complete the course and pass the final examination before the end of 2010, however, will not be subject to re-certification. Home Learning College Academic Director Dave Snow is therefore recommending that all current CompTIA students aim to finish their studies well in advance of the end of the year. He comments: “CompTIA is a highly respected provider of vendor-neutral IT qualifications that are recognised by employers the world over. The decision to introduce a three-year renewal policy makes perfect sense and will ensure that CompTIA qualifications remain highly valued within the IT industry. “The new renewal process being introduced in early 2011 is designed to be as painless as possible. Having said that, it still makes sense for anyone currently undertaking a CompTIA course to try and gain their qualification before these rules come into effect. Home Learning College will provide all of the support necessary for students to achieve this goal.” Matthew Poyiadgi, Vice President of CompTIA, added: “We support Home Learning College’s initiatives to help students prepare for the workplace. The new policy is designed to bring us in line with global standards, but if individuals can be helped into the IT workplace sooner under the current programme then we are all for that. The UK economy needs skilled IT people in order to be truly competitive for the decade ahead, and any training provision that enhances skills sets in the short term can only be a good thing.” For further information on all CompTIA’s renewal policy please visit http://www.comptia.org/certifications/listed/renewal.aspx.
