Figures released today show that Home Learning College significantly enhanced its position as the UK’s biggest provider of professionally-accredited distance learning during 2009, with a range of academic and service level achievements. Successes over the past year include: • The number of Home Learning College students sitting final exams has continually increased, doubling since the second half of 2008 • On average, Home Learning College exam results have been on par or better than national average pass rates. For example, the latest Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) exam results were 10.8% above the national average • Home Learning College was the most nominated training institution in The Lucas 2009, organised by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB). Staff and students achieved seven nominations, across five categories, and Deputy Bookkeeping Faculty Manager Jo Fredriksen walked away on the night as Tutor of the Year • Visitor numbers to Home Learning College’s Virtual Learning Community (VLC) have grown week by week, with almost 1 million activities recorded during the month of January 2010. The VLC allows students to interact with tutors and their peers, and to access forums and ‘frequently asked questions’ which significantly aid course progress. This means tutors spend less time answering common questions and more time on marking and proactively supporting students • As a result of these innovations, targets to mark all assignments in 14 days were smashed, with 97% marked within seven days; over 100,000 student assignments were marked within the 12 month period • At the end of 2009, Home Learning College gained Gold Partner Status with CompTIA - the non-profit trade association advancing the global interests of information technology (IT) professionals and companies. This ranking provides Home Learning College students with direct access to CompTIA’s technical experts in addition to the tutoring support already provided Dave Snow, Home Learning College Academic Director, believes that much of this success can be attributed to the quality of teaching on offer. He comments: “In 2008 we moved our tutoring service in-house and since then we have created a dedicated, experienced team of over 50 professional tutors. As well as being experts in their field, our tutors also have specific distance learning training which enables them to provide the most appropriate level of support to our thousands of students. “Our academic team takes great pride in its work and there is no better reward than a phone call or email from a delighted student who has passed their course with flying colours, or enhanced their career as a direct result of their new qualification.” For more information on Home Learning College’s range of vocational distance learning courses please visit www.homelearningcollege.co.uk/courses/ .
