Results released this week by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) show that Home Learning College students who took exams in December 2009 achieved a 100% pass rate, beating the national average of 65.5%. With over 45,000 members, The CIM is the leading international professional marketing body. First established in 1911, it has for almost a century defined the marketing standards that operate in the UK and is the global champion of best marketing practice. Home Learning College offers the CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing, which teaches the fundamental marketing principles and practices. These include writing a marketing plan, understanding customer behaviour and segmenting and targeting customers to meet their specific needs. Upon completion of the course, students have the option of taking the CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing exam. Students who choose to study for this qualification through Home Learning College benefit from two years dedicated tutorial support – although many people complete the course well within this time frame – and have the ability to pay in affordable instalments over 12 months. They also have access to the Home Learning College Virtual Learning Community which is designed to facilitate interaction with tutors and fellow students, providing valuable peer support. The Home Learning College CIM course is tutored by Jessica Simpson, who has over 15 years marketing and business experience. Jessica was named as the college’s Tutor of the Year 2009 thanks to the unwavering support she provides to students. Commenting on the recent CIM results, Jessica said: “Without doubt, the most rewarding thing about my job as a tutor is being able to play a role in helping people to achieve their full potential. However, at the end of the day, it is the students who are putting in all the hard work and who deserve the praise for this fantastic achievement.” Matt Bloomer from Leeds is one of the successful students. He explains why he opted to boost his professional skills when faced with redundancy: “When it became apparent that I was going to lose my job as a development chemist I decided to expand my horizons and gain greater commercial knowledge through further study. I chose the CIM course because it’s widely recognised by employers and would give me a great foundation in the subject of marketing. Jessica provided excellent support throughout and in particular around the assignments which can be a bit daunting. I’m now in a new job and although it’s not directly related to marketing, the knowledge I gained is enhancing my performance and contribution to the business.” Brett Hornby from West Sussex also passed and is already using his new skills in his role as marketing assistant within the family business. He comments: “When I started the course I was working as cabin crew for a well known airline. I needed something to keep my brain busy and after reviewing my options I decided on marketing. Studying by distance learning was perfect because of my work schedule and I had all the support I needed from Jessica. She was always there when I needed her and no question was too silly. I enjoyed the course so much that I decided to make a career out of it and joined my family business in a marketing role, which was definitely the right move.” For more information on all Home Learning College courses please visit http://www.homelearningcollege.co.uk.
