Promotes wine education through new zone and a series of events

24 August 2012 – The remarkable development and tremendous potential of Asia’s wine market has drawn much global business attention in recent years. According to Euromonitor International, wine sales in Asia reached US$62.2 billion or 5.5 billion litres in 2011, up 63% and 56% respectively compared to 5 years ago. The market is optimistic and sales are forecasted to grow 9.5% and 8.9% per annum in respect to value and volume for 2012-2016.

5th edition presents six zones and a number of group pavilionsTo cater the booming demand for wine and spirits in Asian countries and the Chinese mainland in particular, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is hosting an annual HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair from 8-10 November in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. In its 5th edition, the HKTDC continues to expose visitors to a vast variety of goodies in the Liquor & Beverage Products zone. An inaugural Wine Education zone will be set up alongside other popular zones such as Wine Accessories & Equipment, Wine Investment, Wine Services, and Friends of Wine. A number of group pavilions, with Romania joining the first time, will be present to enrich the overall sourcing experience. Wine traders should seize the opportunity to forge new business connections in the vibrant wine market this November.

Wine EducationWine education is significantly essential to wine suppliers, traders and consumers of an emerging wine market, as knowledge strengthens and betters the industry with quality service and smarter shoppers.  The new Wine Education zone will showcase wine education providers that offer wine courses, wine tasting and appreciation classes, as well as wine-related materials such as books and magazines. A series of Wine Tasting Sessions and Fine Wine Tastings will also offer participants a chance to taste many different kinds of wine under one roof.

Meet the MastersMaster of Wine (MW) is one of the most rigorous qualifications and honourable titles earned by a wine professional. The HKTDC is pleased to invite two MWs as seminar hosts and event speakers at the fair. Christy Centerbury MW, from New York, will give a seminar to share ideas, tips and techniques on how to pair wines and foods wisely.

Debra Meiburg MW, a long-time Hong Kong resident, continues to show her support by being one of the judges for the 4th edition of the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition. She is also the Programme Advisor and Moderator for the Wine Industry Conference, a high-level meeting that takes place during the wine fair where industry experts share their markets insights.
