Mioveni, Romania, March 2, 2026 – Horse Powertrain, a global leader in innovative and low-emission powertrain systems, today celebrates a major milestone with 10 million engines produced at its Mioveni manufacturing facility in Romania.
The milestone engine built was a HORSE H12 LPG – the seventh generation of engines built at the plant.
Operations at Mioveni began in 1971, with the first engine a C-series unit, which has now expanded to a range of engine and transmission parts, including the current HORSE H12 LPG engine. Throughout the five decades of operation, the plant has expanded and evolved its production capabilities, adapting to meet new and changing emissions regulations, including engines that meet Euro 6e/6bis, and the upcoming Euro 7 standards.
The Mioveni facility has an annual production capacity of 450,000 engines, establishing itself as an industrial benchmark in the country and a key facility within Horse Powertrain’s global network.
Gabriel Vieru, Operations Director of Horse Powertrain Mioveni, said: “Reaching 10 million engines is a historic moment for Horse Powertrain in Romania. It is a reflection of the commitment and professionalism of generations of employees that have worked at our Mioveni facility. Beginning with the C engines, through to today’s HR12 and HR12 LPG, we have made extraordinary progress, as we continuously push our technologies forward. As we look to the future, we are committed to strengthening our position as an industrial benchmark in Romania, underscored by our principles of collaboration and excellence.”
HORSE H12 LPG in detail
The HORSE H12 LPG engine is the world’s first mass-production unit to combine direct injection technology with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). This 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder turbo engine integrates 48V mild hybrid technology — including a Belt-integrated Starter Generator and DC/DC converter. By incorporating start‑stop functionality and electric torque assistance during acceleration, this technology helps optimize fuel consumption and reduce CO₂ emissions (nine percent lower when operating on LPG compared with gasoline).
The engine delivers a maximum output of 140PS (103kW) at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 230Nm from 2,100rpm.
Developed by engineering teams in Bucharest, Titu and Mioveni (all Romania), the HORSE H12 LPG underlines Horse Powertrain’s technological leadership in flex fuel engines and alternative fuel solutions.
