Olympic Hospitality Gold at the Austria House Tirol
With only four days to go until the end of the Games, the question is who’ll win the gold medal for partying? Austria’s lack of medal glory isn’t doing anything to diminish their enthusiasm to succeed in hosting one of the best national hospitality houses at London 2012.
Over the last 14 days, Austria House Tirol, located at Trinity House, has welcomed around 40,000 visitors into the Tirolean Alpine Garden from all over the world. British, German, Swiss, Irish, Australian, Danish, Croatian, Czech, South African, American, Canadian, Dutch, Italian, Belgian, French, Chinese visitors have all passed through and contributed to making a truly vibrant and international party atmosphere at the Austria House Tirol. Over 1200 sausages and 1500 schnitzels have been consumed and during the busy Ischgl party weekend over 7000 pints of beer were drunk in celebration! The yodelling competition taking place in the iconic red telephone box is a real hit, as is the chairlift photo opportunity as visitors get dressed in ski gear to pose with their friends.
Extending the true meaning of hospitality, the Austria House Tirol has not charged an entrance fee for visitors to come and experience a part of the Alps in London. John, 34, lawyer from Bermondsey, says “I have been to other houses, like the Danish, Dutch, Russian and French, but the Austrians are having the best party, food and beer. That’s why I have been back for several times and don’t want the Olympic party to end!”
This weekend the Kitzbühler-Alps take over the stage to host a summer alpine weekend, cheering on Austrian medal hopeful Lisi Osl in the women’s mountain bike event on Saturday 11thAugust. Originally from the Kitzbühler-Alps region, Lisi Osl has had the perfect training ground in an area home to over 800 km of mountain bike and cycling trails and the largest e-biking area in the Alps. After the event on Saturday, Lisi Osl will be at the Austria House Tirol as a special guest and on Sunday well-respected mountaineer Peter Habeler, the first man to ascend Everest oxygenless with partner Reinhold Messner in 1978 will be there from 11am. There will be chances to win a holiday to the Kitzbühler-Alps too. Visitors are invited to bring along a summer mountain photograph to pin on the photo wall and the best will win a holiday (include name and number on the back as entry). Traditional food and drinks will continue to be served in the Tirolean Alpine Garden.
Over the last two weeks the highlights have included the official opening of the Austria House Tirol on Thursday 26th July, which welcomed the team of 20 cyclists who rode from Innsbruck to London raising over £15,000 for Disability Snowsport UK. ‘Snow-Day’ Sunday, during the first weekend, brought a winter alpine feel to the Games with one of the UK’s favourite Winter OIympians, Eddie the Eagle adding to the fun. Last weekend it was Ischgl’s time to party and with a world-wide reputation for its après-ski, the party didn’t disappoint.

Notes to Editors:
Trinity House, home to the General Lighthouse Authority, is located near the historic Tower of London and the River Thames and is one of London’s most distinguished private event venues. Behind the building’s imposing neo-classical façade, designed by Samuel Wyatt in 1794, are five graceful banqueting rooms for corporate and civil events and weddings ranging in capacity from 10 to 130 places. Incorporated by Royal Charter in 1514, the Corporation is also a major maritime charity, wholly funded by its endowments. The Corporation spends around £4m each year on its charitable activities including welfare of mariners, education and training, and the promotion of safety at sea. www.trinityhouse.co.uk or www.thls.org.uk
