Snow forecast to fall in London this weekend
On Sunday 29thJuly the national hospitality house, Austria House Tirol at Trinity House, will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland and will be covered in SNOW, ready for the Après-ski party on Sunday afternoon. As London prepares for the Olympics we wonder if they are ready for yodelling, thigh slapping, DJ Koko pumping classic Après-ski hits, outlandish ski wear......oh and did we mention Olympic legend - Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards? The world’s favourite ski jumper will be soaking up the atmosphere all afternoon.
The Tirol Snow Day will be a fun-filled day event, open to the public, from midday to 10pm, with a host of activities going on as the London summer chills out in the snow. The day’s highlights are:
12.00pm – Tirolean Alpine Garden
Come down to the Tirolean Alpine Garden, which will be open to the public for the duration of the Games and enjoy watching your favourite Olympic sports on the outside screens. Situated in front of Trinity House the area has been converted into an atmospheric Alpine Hut, with a bar serving everyone’s favourite Tirolean drinks and delights such as Apfelstrudel or Kaiserschmarrn. Bringing a taste of the Alps to London, Tirolean ‘Gemütlichkeit’ (hospitality) will be in full flow.
2pm – 3pm - Après-Ski DJ
Time to get on down to some classic Après-ski hits with DJ Koko! The Tirol region is famous for some of the best après-ski resorts like Ischgl and Mayrhofen and to the sound of the Europop beat you will soon be in the mood for your next skiing holiday.
3 pm - Thigh-slapping
Traditional ‘Schuhplatteln’ is basically the art of slapping your thighs, this noisy form of dance started as a way for the men to impress the ladies! And Paul Heis will be on hand to give his best thigh slapping tips and techniques.
4.30pm – Yodel Idol
Get ready to embrace one of Tirol’s stereotypes as we invite everyone to start yodelling their ski socks off and with the help of a professional yodelling instructor, Paul Heis, London will be Yodel-Ay-Eee-Ooo-ing before we know it! In the Tirolean Alpine Garden there will be a traditional British red telephone box, pick up the phone, record your yodel and you will be in with a chance to win a week’s summer holiday to Mayrhofen including half board, flights and transfers in 2013. Or if you can’t make it to London you can record your yodel online at www.yodeloff.co.uk
5 pm – Live music
Live Music with Alpin Banda, playing modern Alpine music.
6 pm – Quirkiest ski outfit competition
We are inviting people to come down to the ‘Snow day and Après-Ski party’ dressed in crazy ski gear (or get changed whilst they are there!). The winner of the most outlandish outfit will win one of two holidays. The amazing holiday prizes, to Ischgl and to Innsbruck and its holiday villages, will include flights, resort transfers and lift passes. The region will also show ‘Tirol’s got Talent’ with its sexy ski instructors……more will be revealed on the evening!
Outside in Trinity Square Gardens, overlooking the Tower of London, people are already making the most of the sunny weather and the Tirol deckchairs. The central location of the historic Trinity House is a fitting venue to entertain athletes, media, VIPs and attract the general public to enjoy what is on offer at the Austria House Tirol, during the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
