MP visits Banbury extra care scheme
Residents and staff at a new extra care scheme for older people in Banbury had a visit from local MP, Sir Tony Baldry, last week.
During the visit Sir Tony had the opportunity to look around the facilities at Stanbridge House in Ruskin Road as well as chat to some of the people who have moved into the recently completed £9.7 million development. Living in extra care enables residents to enjoy independent living along with 24 hour care and support tailored to meet individual need.
Stanbridge House, a scheme of 70 apartments for people aged 55 and over boasts community facilities which include a shop, restaurant and hair and beauty salon. Built on the site of the former Stanbridge Hall School, the scheme also houses the new county council-run Banbury Health and Wellbeing Centre, which provides a wide range of health and wellbeing activities for adults.
Commenting on the visit, Sir Tony Baldry said: “With an increasingly older population, it is vital that elderly people have access to the facilities that they require in older age.
“In combining both residential and recreational facilities all on one site, Stanbridge House really is a fantastic and forward-thinking development. I also think it is very good news that Stanbridge House has been able to open its doors before Christmas so that new residents are settled in before the festive season begins.
“Loneliness at this time of year is a terrible problem for many of the country’s elderly people but Stanbridge House, with its emphasis on community, will provide a welcoming and friendly environment for all its residents ensuring that they can really enjoy this special time of year.”
Sara Naylor-Wild, Locality Manager for Housing 21 said: “We’re delighted that Sir Tony Baldry has visited Stanbridge House and met with staff and customers. The scheme is an excellent example of extra care housing and we are sure he was impressed with the facilities and benefits provided.”
