Older People’s Housing Celebrated
The residents and developers of Cambrian Green Court, Housing 21’s £8.5 million extra care housing scheme in Yate, have celebrated an official opening of the scheme.
Councillor Matthew Riddle, who presented the residents with a commemorative plaque, was joined by officers from South Gloucestershire Council, Housing 21 and the Leadbitter Group for last week’s event.
The first residents started to move into Cambrian Green Court at the beginning of the year and took great delight in showing the guests around the development which has been purpose built with older people in mind. The visitors also had an opportunity to chat to residents over a buffet lunch.
On of the first residents to move in, Kathleen Stone, said: "I love living here. I enjoy meeting new people and have made lots of new friends. I came from Coalpit Heath but I definitely won’t be moving again!"
Paul Richards, director of property management for Housing 21 added: "We’re very proud of Cambrian Green Court and it is an excellent example of the value of extra care housing, both to the residents and to the local community.
"Extra care housing provides a safe and sociable environment, allowing older people to enjoy their own space and an active lifestyle."
Cambrian Green Court, which received an investment of £3.9 million from the HCA, provides 60 extra care apartments for independent living. It is the second of two extra care facilities to be provided in South Gloucestershire by Housing 21. Another, at Kingswood, is due to complete later this year.
Cllr Matthew Riddle said: "Cambrian Green Extra Care Housing is a housing development designed for the needs of older people in the 21stcentury. It provides its residents with a greater sense of independence combined with excellent on-site support. South Gloucestershire Council is proud to have driven this scheme, and we look forward to seeing more developments like this in the near future."
John Boutwood, HCA investment and regeneration manager said: " It’s great to see the impact that our investment has had by visiting this excellent scheme and speaking with the residents and partners.
"Providing high quality homes for older people is an important part of what we do and it’s a testament to the hard work of partners that we’ve been able to deliver these new homes in Yate. I’m pleased that we have been able to support this scheme and I am sure that its tenants will be very happy in their new home."
Russell Houghton, Regional Director of Leadbitter’s Western Housing division, said: "We’re delighted to have constructed this first-class development for the Yate community. It’s a pleasure to see the residents of Cambrian Green Court enjoying their new homes and the many facilities it offers."
A range of communal facilities are also provided at Cambrian Green Court, including a lounge, activity room, RJays café which is owned by Ross and Johnny, a library and Salon 21 hairdressing salon, run by Leah. A day centre for people with dementia has also been provided on the site.
