The doors to a show flat at a new housing scheme for older people in Maidstone will open this week. Thomas Place in James Whatman Way is Housing 21's latest extra care development in Kent and local people are invited to book a viewing.

The new scheme adjoins the landmark Kent History and Library Centre development which is being built in a partnership with Kent County Council, Bouygues Development, Housing 21 and West Kent Housing Association with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Thomas Place will provide 57 one and two bedroom apartments for people aged 55 and over. Extra Care housing enables older people to continue living independently with 24 hour care and support on-site to meet individual needs.

Facilities on-site include a hair and beauty salon, communal lounge, retaurant and landscaped gardens. Residents will also enjoy high levels of insulation for warmth and comfort and the security of a door entry system with intercom to every apartment.

The show flat is open by appointment only between 10am and 2pm on Wednesdays and Fridays during October and on Thursdays and Fridays during November. Half hour viewing slots can be booked by contacting Emili Lowery on 0788 242 7980. Anyone wishing to apply for one of the new apartments should contact Maidstone Borough Council on 01622 602750 or email thomasplace@maidstone.gov.uk.

Work on Thomas Place is due to complete in December.
